School Direct exists in two distinct formats. The majority of entrants who have less than 3 years’ work experience follow the School Direct (Unsalaried) route. This is the replacement for the previous PGCE route. In this case you would be funded through a student loan in the same way as for your first degree. Your fees would depend on the HEI you select, as with other courses. There are bursaries available for shortage subjects.

See the TA website for further details.

If you are a graduate with 3 years’ successful experience in the workplace (not necessarily educational) then School Direct (Salaried) could be the training programme for you. We will be offering these places in shortage subjects only (please refer to the vacancies page). If you were to be successful in securing a place on this programme you would be employed by the school as an unqualified teacher for the duration of the course; the fees for your training would be met by the Teaching Agency.
