Trainees share their experiences of their first placement school

This is what some of the trainees have to say about their experiences in their first placement school:

Batley Girls’ High School:
“Batley Girls High School has been an incredible first placement school. I have loved working with the staff and students and have been thoroughly supported in my teaching practice and have been given valuable teaching advice and personal support. My mentor has been brilliant at helping me co-plan and giving constructive feedback to develop my teaching. She has also been brilliant at making time to help me mark assessments and guiding my subject knowledge and has made time for me beyond the requirements of the mentor meeting. Emma Rodrigues has also been absolutely brilliant in providing personalised support in my first placement and has continued to motivate me throughout my placement.”

Kettlethorpe High School:
“I have had a fantastic experience of teaching on my first placement. The school have been very welcoming and all teachers in the department have offered strong support. My mentor has been incredibly supportive and encouraging in this first stage. She has offered specific, useful feedback and has enabled me to develop in my practice by trying out new things in a welcoming environment.”

The Mirfield Free Grammar:
“I have enjoyed working with such a fantastic team and I have felt completely supported in what has been an incredibly hard but rewarding term. All teachers of this department have such varied skills and are more than happy to share their resources and expertise; they are incredibly generous with their time. I have also been made to feel welcome in school, departmental and tutor meetings. My mentor was very thorough and provided me with a timetable which easily enabled me to tick all the requirements needed to pass stage one. I cannot thank my mentor, host teachers and the rest of the department enough.”

Spen Valley High School:
“The staff at Spen Valley were extremely welcoming, as were the English department.”

Upper Batley High School:
“I felt very welcome here and would definitely recommend them as a host to complete training.”
